In addition to our basketball specialists at OC Rain Basketball, we now have specialists to walk along side your child to guide them academically.
Our passion is to develop well-rounded student-athletes to better their chances of being successful on the court and in the classroom on any college campus.
More than 150,000 student-athletes receive $2.4 billion in athletic scholarships each year from NCAA member colleges and universities, this doesn’t include academic scholarships and federal Pell Grants.
We know athletic scholarships require more than skill and talent, as they are strongly contingent on good academic standing and specific grade point average (GPA) minimums each year.
The transition from high school to college level classes is not as easy as some may like to think, even for good high school students. Proper time management, organization, and study skills can make for a smoother transition.
Our new Progressive Academic Guidance program provides our middle school and high school athletes with an opportunity to improve their study skills from working one-on-one with an academic coach. Through weekly meetings, your academic coach will help you create an action plan by identifying deadlines and priorities for the week.
Your initial consultation with the academic coach will include establishing meeting times via Skype or in person, academic areas of improvement, academic goals, and means to accomplish those goals. Progress reports will be given to each athlete to be filled out and signed by their teachers every four weeks to keep record of their progression.
Academic coaches help athletes address challenges in the following areas:
- Time Management
- Developing positive teacher-student relations
- Test preparation strategies
- Reducing test anxiety
- Note taking
- Stress management
- Reading strategies
- ...and more.
Balancing basketball and academics can be a challenge for both parents and their student-athlete.
OC Rain is here to relieve some of that tension by providing your child with important skills that will develop them into disciplined and productive individuals that excel in athletics and beyond.
